Prof. Margaret Mwenje holds a PhD in Clinical and Christian Counseling from Cornerstone University, USA, Master of Education (Guidance & Counseling) from University of Montevallo, USA, BA in Biblical Studies from Southeastern Bible College, USA. She also holds a Mastery Certificate in Trauma & Recovery from Harvard Refugee program offered in Orvieto Italy. Prof. Mwenje also holds a Certificate in Mental Health Assessment and Psychological First Aid offered by US Department of Health. She is the current Chair of Kenya Guidance, Counseling & Psychological Association (KGCPA). She is a member of the International Society of Substance Use Professionals (ISSUP). Prof. Mwenje has 18 years of experience in university teaching in different universities: Kenyatta University, Pan Africa Christian University, and currently at Karatina University. Over the years she has been a Head of Department, Dean School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Founding Director of a Technical Institute, Examination Coordinator, Coordinator for Counseling Practicum and Internship, Chair of Departmental Postgraduate Research, Departmental ISO Champion, Academic Leader, among others. She has also participated in counseling psychology curriculum development for different levels. Prof. Mwenje has been an External Examiner for St. Paul’s University and Daystar University PhD Clinical Psychology program. She is the current Director, Community Outreach at Karatina University. Prof. Mwenje has worked as a Case Manager, Addiction Counselor, and a Rehabilitation instructor in Birmingham, Alabama in the US. She worked for National Campaign Against Drug Abuse (NACADA) as a Rehabilitation Consulting Officer.
Prof. Mwenje is involved in different Community Outreach activities for example: Mental Health & Emotional Wellbeing, Drug Abuse and Substance Use Disorders Mitigation, Mental Health & Self-Care for Journalists, Pastors, Police Officers, healthcare Providers. She is involved in mentorship for High School Students and Out of School Youth. Prof. Mwenje is also involved in Trauma Informed Therapy training among Community Health Workers in Rwanda. She has supervised ten (10) PhD and eleven (12) Masters to completion. She has published in refereed journals and co-authored a book on Counseling Supervision-A Handbook for Counselor Educators. She has presented academic papers in national and international conferences. She has also been a Keynote Speaker in different conferences including the 2023 UN International Day of Families. She has received several awards including the 2024 Utumishi Bora Award from the Kenya Christian Professionals Forum (KCPF).
