Biography

Prof. Franklin Wabwoba holds a PhD in Information Technology from Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology Kakamega. The title of the thesis was “A model for enhancing green ICT through alignment of personnel capacity and workplace readiness in Kenya.” He also has a Master of Science (Computer Applications) whose thesis title was “A Teacher Distribution Management Information System based on an assessment of computing levels of education managers”, an Advanced Diploma In Human Resource Development, and a Postgraduate Endorsement (Education Management) from the University of South Africa (South Africa) specializing in Personnel Management, Education Foundations, School Management and Education Law.The endorsement project report was titled “The provision of educational law in the teacher training programmes in Kenya.” He has a Bachelor of Education (Science) hons from Egerton University(Kenya).

Before the current appointment he served at Kibabii University, Masinde Murilo University of Science and Technology, Mumias Sugar Company and Teachers Service Commission (Friends School, Kamusinga and Eldoret Polytechnic now known as Eldoret National Polytechnic). While serving in this institutions, he rose through ranks under TSC from Assistant Lecturer, Lecturer and Graduate Teacher before joining Mumias Sugar as a manager. On joining the university sector, he rose ranks from Assistant Lecturer (2007-2010), Lecturer (2010-2013), Senior Lecturer (2013-2016) and Associate Professor (2016-2021) to finally become a Professor of Information Technology (as from 2021).

Prof. Wabwoba has undergone Strategic Leadership Development Programme by the Kenya School of Government. He has been trained in Open learning by the Open University (United Kingdom). He is a qualified ISO/IEC 27001:2013 Information Security Management Systems Auditor and ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Systems Auditor. He has published widely in peer-reviewed journals, has attended and presented papers in national and international conferences and workshops. He has supervised doctorate and masters students to completion and examined PhD students and MSc students within Kenya and internationally; and several undergraduate research projects, jointly with other supervisors. Prof. Wabwoba is a reviewer with various journals in his area of expertise. Prof. Wabwoba has published several university level books, book chapters and developed self-based e-learning modules. He has attracted research funds from different bodies as the principal investigate as well as research team member.

He has performed duties as Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academics and Students’ Affairs) for almost a year, Director – Technical and Vocational Education and Training (2023-2024) , Dean – School of Computing and Informatics at Kibabii University (2013-2022), Acting Director – Quality Assurance at Kibabii University College (2012), Chairman – Department of Computer Science at Kibabii University College (2012). He also served as Departmental Examination Coordinator at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (2008-2012). He was the ICT training manager with Mumias Sugar Company (2000-2207). He held the position of careers and Director of studies Friends School, Kamusinga (1998-2000) and was the Assistant Registrar at Eldoret National Polytechnic (1992-1997). He has served on various university committees.

Prof. Wabwoba is a consultant with the Commission for University Education and Inter University Council for East Africa in matters of curriculum peer review and Institutional Audits of universities in Kenya and East Africa. He was a members of the Ministry of Education, Think Tank on challenges facing university education in Kenya. He has served as a member the national management team of the Kenya National Drama and Film festival.

Prof. Wabwoba is ranked in AD Scientific Index rankings; and Kenya Scientist and University Rankings. He is a member of the Association of Computing Machines, the Association of International Engineers (Software Engineer) and the Association of Computing Practitioners –Kenya. He was the founding and first national chair of the Association of Computing Society Kenya.
