Biography

Dr. Peter K. Musyimi is Lecturer at Karatina University, School of Education and Social Sciences, Department of Humanities. He has a PhD in Earth Sciences (Meteorology)-Summa Cum Laude from Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) in Hungary which was through a competitive Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship. Prior to this appointment, He was a Tutorial Fellow of Geography and a Graduate Assistance at the same school and department. He completed his PhD in Earth Sciences in 2025, completed his Master of Arts in Geography in 2018 and Bachelor of Education (Arts) Geography/Kiswahili (First Class Honours) in 2013 from Karatina University. He is a Kenyan Earth scientist (Meteorologist) and a Geographer with a research interest on evapotranspiration modelling for different and analysis of droughts in Kenya. His research specifically focused on Evapotranspiration modelling and drought analysis for different climatic regions of Kenya” where he examined  reference evapotranspiration ( ) and real evapotranspiration ( )  which are vital indicators in agriculture, hydrology, agrometeorology and climate-related studies. His is interested in climatology and meteorology, remote sensing and GIS and agrometeorology. His scientific effort geared towards demystifying the understanding of complex quantification of evapotranspiration, crucial in understanding its variability in estimation for agrometeorology and agricultural processes. He has also established a pioneering work of meteorological measurement, the first soil moisture measurement in Mount Kenya and at Karatina University leading to development of a new brand of soil moisture dataset. The results and findings from his PhD thesis have been published in highly reputable Scopus-indexed journals. He has widely participated with scientific contributions in international conferences specifically European Geosciences Union (EGU) general assembly and EMS annual meetings among others. He has also collaborated and co-authored many scientific articles with scientists. He authored or co-authored over 30 scientific manuscripts since 2015, received over 460 citations (Google Scholar) as of 2026. He is a professional in SNAP, ArcMap and can create program codes in Python. Dr. Musyimi’s key research interests include focuses on evapotranspiration modelling for different climatic regions, drought, and climate indexes analysis in Kenya, where he applies various analyses and modeling techniques to analyze complex geospatial datasets related to environmental science. This has enriched his scientific methodologies aimed at critical analysis and comparison of estimates of evapotranspiration as well as application of 1D soil model for evapotranspiration in Kenya Currently, he works at the Department of Humanities at Karatina University, where he is actively involved in teaching, research, and academic administration, and community outreach. He supervises Bachelor of Arts in Geography student projects, Masters and PhD student’s thesis at Karatina University. His contributions of training and teaching goes beyond as he is also a reputable scientific journal reviewer with journals including Remote sensing, Atmosphere, Agronomy, Data, (MDPI), Springer Nature (Earth Science Informatics, Discover Water).
