Biography

Dr. Grace Nyakonyu Kamotho is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Agriculture and Biotechnology at Karatina University where she has been a faculty member since 2011. She is currently the Dean, School of Agriculture and Biotechnology after her appointment to the position in 2022. Grace was the Founder Head of Department of Crop Science department, currently the department of Agricultural Sciences. She obtained her undergraduate degree in Horticulture from Egerton University. Grace has a master degree in Crop Production and Seed Technology from Moi University and Ph.D. in Seed Science from the University of Eldoret. She was awarded a post-doctoral fellowship by TWAS- DFG at Liebniz University, Germany in 2021. Her research interests lie in the area of crop sciences (crop production, crop protection, postharvest, plant biotechnology, seed science and food security).

Grace has been involved in collaborative research projects financed by various organizations including Seed for Life by National Museums of Kenya (NMK), Kirk House Trust-UK and National Research Fund – Kenya. She is currently a principal investigator (PI) of a research project on aflatoxin management in maize, and a co-investigator on research project on banana based food and feeds.

Grace has mobilized resources to Karatina University, inform of equipment worth several millions of Kenyan Shillings. She has participated in scientific conferences and has published several articles in peer reviewed journals. She has chaired and co-chaired conference organizing committees. Grace has always kept abreast in her field of specialization by attending professional courses. She has a rich international exposure from Israel, Egypt, Netherlands, Germany, Poland, Italy, Cameroon, Uganda, Tanzania and Zanzibar.
